So far I have found Hum Log (1951) - it co-stars Nutan and he looks like an unkempt vagabond in the few scenes I saw - and Garam Coat but havent seen either of them.

Nicki, now that you've plunged into golden oldies, perhaps its time for old B/W, too!Bollyviewerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17270927806254662068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-3623312952049529872008-10-03T04:48:00.000+02:002008-10-03T04:48:00.000+02:00OMG, this movie looks so interesting!! That last screencap is lovely--if your synopsis hadn't convinced me to watch the film that screencap probably would've. :-)ajnabihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08296593338690811213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-15610444371036649942008-10-01T01:36:00.000+02:002008-10-01T01:36:00.000+02:00Shweta, Balraj Sahni was always earnest! But he certainly looked young here - probably because his character wasnt carrying the idealism baggage his roles normally involved. I thought he looked older in Seema which came out 5 years before this one (if imdb is right).Bollyviewerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17270927806254662068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-54373547521248245082008-09-30T01:01:00.001+02:002008-09-30T01:01:00.001+02:00This was a good one! Had fun watching it, but lost my dvd :(
It was cool to see Balraj so young and earnest, no? :)Shweta Mehrotra Gahlawathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13543438271055378809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-19110814075675676002008-09-30T01:01:00.000+02:002008-09-30T01:01:00.000+02:00Banno, I'd love to read some of his writings. Is Meri Filmi Aatmakatha in Hindi?

I havent seen Kabuliwala but have shed buckets of tears over Tagore's story and the song Aye mere pyaare watan. Will eventually work up the courage to see it, as well as Do Beegha Zameen - one day!

Memsaab, I have seen Minu Mumtaz mostly in bit roles or item dances and was surprised at how good she turned out to be! Wonder why she never made it to the big time... And yes, you should try more Balraj Sahni - he wasnt always playing tear-inducing characters! :-)

theBollywoodFan, the title is interesting. I am so glad old B/W movies have started coming out on DVD, now. There is so much unknown masala gold in the 50s and 60s that I wont run out of "new" movies for ages! :-DBollyviewerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17270927806254662068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-11849332777809687872008-09-29T22:11:00.000+02:002008-09-29T22:11:00.000+02:00This comment has been removed by the author.Bollywoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11296407098387050782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149142221218445999.post-41942799562508101992008-09-29T19:53:00.000+02:002008-09-29T19:53:00.000+02:00Oooh! It was strange how many problems that he had with the Hindi film industry still hold, like copying stuff right out, and so on.

He could still make me cry buckets in 'Kabuliwala'.

I saw glimpses of 'Black Cat' the other day, but didn't want to spoil the fun, because I hadn't seen it from the beginning. So will get it and watch.Bannohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03855784743978203037noreply@blogger.com
